Initiative 77
Initiative 77 aims to eliminate the tipped minimum wage in the District of Columbia by gradually increasing the rate until it is equal to minimum wage for non-tipped employees. The initiative is on the ballot for the DC primary election on June 19, 2018 and if passed would require equalization of the rates by 2026.
As of March 2018, tipped workers in DC received a base wage of $3.33 per hour which is scheduled to increase to $5 per hour by 2020 in accordance with a 2016 city ordinance. The DC non-tipped minimum wage is currently at $12.50 per hour and is scheduled to increase to $15 per hour by 2020.
